Toybox games recently introduced a new game called Flip or Flop - Home Edition (download free trial here). The general story is that you have to renovate enough homes at a profit to buy back your grandmother's lost house, but it's really just another Match 3 game like Bejeweled, except with a home improvement set of icons in place of jewels. What's strange is that the expectation from the title is that it's more of a Diner Dash meets Home Improvement game, but no, it's not.
The gameplay is standard for the genre, with occasional bonus pieces being introduced, and larger boards appearing so that you can put together larger matching sequences for bigger bonuses. There is just not enough gameplay or anything new in this game to make it worth purchasing, at least in the levels that I played before getting bored. It has a thin veneer of a story, but it's a relentless set of 99 game sequences, each one moving faster, and occasionally introducing new icons (paint cans, wallpaper) which don't actually do anything to change the game. There is also nothing to do with the money you make along the way (e.g. purchase power-ups, change look and feel, etc.). Finally, the help mechanism seems overly aggressive, offering you the correct move so quickly that you end up just waiting for the hint to show up, but there is no way to tune the difficult rating to change it.
Verdict - Skip Flip or Flop - choose another Match 3 game
